LIMANI

Limani beach (in past, this name was used to describe the whole area, but Monolithos has taken its place today) has two quays which enclose it explain the name (which means harbour) and sre evidence of efforts at some time in the past to build a port here for Santorini. The location is entirely unsuitable for this, of course, because it is quite unsheltered from the wind and because the sea-bed is shallow and sandy. Thus the site was never used as a harbour. The beach, though, provides good swimming, particularly for those who merely paddle, since there is fine black sand and the sea is shallow until quite a long way out.
