Santorini Restaurants and Bars

Although Santorini is an island of 60 square miles you will find 2000 food businesses on it! That certainly says something about Santorinian cuisine. The dishes are tasty and original, cooked with local products and fresh ingredients by competent and world known chefs. In Santorini you can find all kinds of restaurants, serving food for all tastes.

Sea Side Lounge

One of the funkiest restaurants in Perivolos is probably the Sea Side Lounge by the beach which is not just a restaurant but it also offers comfortable lounges, umbrellas and straw mattresses spread on the black sand for swimmers and sunbathers. The cuisine is characterized by a fine combination of Mediterranean and Arabic tastes presented in an outstanding way and yet so rich in taste. There is also a wide selection of deserts.

Il Cantuccio

Maybe the most famous Italian restaurant in Santorini is Il Cantuccio in Firostefani. There is a reason why Il Cantuccio has such a good rumor; Giuseppe left Sicily to come to the Greek islands and ended up an owner of a small restaurant. It has a tiny terrace right below the two wind mills in Firostefani and it is usually swamped with people.

This is very easy since there are only a few tables to accommodate many people.

Pasta and pizza here taste originally and handmade pasta is served every day. Some of the most delicious dishes are the risotto with seafood and ravioli with spinach and manouri, a white cheese, the agnolotti with zucchinis, gnocchi with tomato, mozzarella and basil and the delicious penne alla Norma with eggplants.

Yiorgaros Fish Tavern

If you ask all the locals which is the place to get the freshest fish they will all tell you that Yiorgaros in Akrotiri is the one. The fish is guaranteed to be fresh since and located right by the sea it offers an incredible view of the caldera. The fish soup and the spicy shrimp spaghetti, the split peas puree, the tomato balls, the white local eggplants and the cherry tomato salads are all delicious.

Nichteri

Calm and relaxing with tables that overlook the sea of Kamari and right next to the pedestrian street of the village is Nichteri with tables, chairs and walls in pale pistachio green color and dishes based on the Mediterranean cuisine. The cheeses are from Crete, Naxos, Syros, Cyprus, Mani, and Ipiros accompanied with vegetables from the Santorinian land. Taste the fish fillet with tomato sauce, tomato balls, Vinsanto fillets and drink wines from small selected wine houses.

Santorini is also known for its wild nightlife, so you will find an abundance of bars, cafes and clubs to choose from either you like Greek or foreign music, mainstream, rock or latin, there is a place for everybody.

Galini Cafe Bar

One of the magical places in Firostefani is Galini cafe bar. Although it is small it will impress you with its special decoration, the romantic environment and the breathtaking view of the caldera.

The staff, waiter and barwoman are very friendly and helpful. The menu includes all kinds of drinks and juices, some snacks and different sweets including yoghurt and glyka tou koutaliou (boiled fruit and vegetables preserved in sirup), a traditional Greek, sweet treat. In the end, the check is brought to the customers in small wooden decorated boxes.

Mylos Cafe

Mylos Cafe is one of the most noticeable in Firostefani since it is resided in an original wind mill transformed into a cafe. The view of the caldera from its porch is simply magnificent especially during night time when all the lights of the island's villages are lit up. This place is preferred by couples since it is very romantic.

Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is one of the busiest nightclubs in Fira decorated in an oriental style, with bright colors and the lanterns that get you in the mood for dancing right from the beginning, when you first set your foot in the entrance corridor. The music played is mainstream with some oriental breaks as a tribute to the atmosphere.

Franco's Bar

Now Franco's Bar, is famed throughout the world and it's an all time classic. This is the cocktail bar which made classical music the indispensable soundtrack for caldera bar life. Opera music in the background, a beautiful sunset view, comfortable chaise longues turned to face the caldera… the environment is absolutely relaxing.

Tango

Tango is a bar - club that you will find next to Franco's in Fira. It is always swamped with people that either dance or drink something while gazing at the wonderful view. The music includes the current tunes and many Greeks also show a preference to the specific bar. There are a few tables, chairs and benches where the guests can leave their glasses on but most people usually stand. Tango is an open bar with a stylish, up to the minute chill out atmosphere and stunning views of the caldera.

Cafe del Mar e Sol

Cafe Del Mar e Sol is a chill-out place ideal for your first drinks before you start dancing in Santorini's night clubs. It has a large patio with a view of the caldera, torch-lighting, blue and yellow sofas. The menu runs from burgers to caviar and it is open for many hours during the day, even for breakfast.

A few more bars and restaurants worthwhile are Pelekanos Restaurant, the Sphinx, Kira Thira bar and the Taj Mahal.
