The excursion starts from Kamari it takes about 10 minutes by bus and then 10-20 minutes by foot to arrive at the site. Ancient Thira is situated in a unique location on top of Mesa Vouno mountain at a height of 356 meters. This strategic point was chosen by the Dorian settlers to built their capital town during the 8th century BC. The excavations uncovered the ruins of ancient buildings, sanctuaries and temples, inscriptions and carved stones of archaic period and also the ancient theatre situated in an excellent location with a panoramic view of the Aegean Sea. The bus will be waiting for you in order to take you back to Kamari.
